Asterisk Arena - Virtual Extension (Follow Me) PDF Print E-mail

In current geographical mobility environment, users must be available in an easy way, wherever they are. It is even common the 'deskless' users who roam through 'HotPlaces' randomly.

The user can also being perpetually travelling between branches of the corporation, thus having multiple office, or work partially from home. This is the concept called "mobility"

In asterisk, there is already one existing solution called "Follow-me" , which allows a user to be reachable in one extension or additional number, when the first extension remains unanswered. In any case, the user has no possibility of redefine his/her primary extension, and is also difficult to integrate with third party software, rendering it as a very limited solution.

At Asterisk Arena we have developed this mobility functionality through virtual extensions. In our solution, one user can login at any given extension, through different ways (IVR, keyboard, Web page, etc), obtaining a virtual extension that Asterisk links automatically with the phisical one thorugh the dialplan.

Depending on user, the virtual extension will be able to have more or less permissions (eg. permission for placing calls internal but not external), login expiration time (eg. logout every night). This extension will always be identified and under constant monitoring through our switchboard (so the operator knows exactly about the current user state)

Furthermore, it is easily integrable with a given dialplan, in contrast to an agent based system. It allows the geographical mobility even between remote locations. The system can be activated from within the pbx through a simple voice menu, or a web page, among others.
